On Sunday, Melania Trump and her husband, Donald, attended an event marking 250 years of the Navy. Although many were frustrated by the president’s late arrival of an hour, opinions varied when the first lady started her speech. While some praised Melania’s address, social media quickly filled with mockery regarding her and her somewhat awkward greeting.

The Trumps were present at the Naval Station Norfolk in Virginia for the Navy’s 250th anniversary celebration. They arrived late, as Donald Trump’s speech commenced over an hour later than scheduled.

Both Melania and Donald sported their signature caps. Donald donned his familiar red MAGA hat, while Melania, less often seen in a cap, wore a white one featuring the same USA logo as her husband’s.

In a nod to ‘Top Gun,’ the First Lady showcased a brown bomber jacket, but as she began her speech, reactions to her greeting of the navy audience varied.

“Hooyah, Navy,” Melania exclaimed, but the audience’s response was probably not what she anticipated. Although there was some applause, an awkward silence soon followed in the crowd.

While some people applauded Melania Trump for her greeting, others were not so sure. On social media, numerous users expressed their thoughts on Melania’s “Hooyah.”

“Please make it stop,” one user on X commented.

Melania Trump faces mockery after her ‘awkward greeting’ to sailors.

“Cringe,” another user remarked, while a third questioned, “Good lord. Did her communications team suggest she say this to seem relatable?”

A fourth user ridiculed the first lady by stating, “Now she speaks Navy. She can add that to her list of languages,” alluding to the claims that Melania can speak six languages, including French and Italian, yet seldom uses them publicly.

Another social media user remarked, “We are a goddamned sitcom.”

“Our country is being invaded by foreigners! ICE, we got one, quick!” one user wrote.

After greeting the sailors with a “hooyah,” Melania went on to say it was a privilege to be there.

“Generations of sailors have kept America free because of your presence on the high seas,” she stated. “Your strength, bravery, and sacrifice inspire us all.”
