However, it was given to María Corina Machado from Venezuela instead.

The 2025 Nobel Peace Prize has a new honoree — and it’s not Donald Trump.
Even though the president has consistently claimed he was deserving of the accolade, the esteemed award was presented to Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado for her relentless struggle for democracy in her nation.
Trump, who has publicly taken credit for resolving several global conflicts, has been highlighting himself as a possible candidate for the prize for months.
During a meeting in February with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House, he remarked:
“They will never give me a Nobel Peace Prize. I deserve it, but they will never give it to me.”
The 79-year-old president has frequently highlighted his diplomatic achievements, asserting that he has settled conflicts without the need for ceasefires. During a summit in August with Ukrainian and European leaders, Trump stated:
“I’ve managed six wars, I’ve brought six wars to an end. If you examine the six agreements I finalized this year, they were all during wartime. I didn’t implement any ceasefires.”
Ranked at the top of international odds lists
Leading up to the announcement, Trump’s name often appeared at the top of international odds lists after he asserted that he “deserved” the award for his diplomatic initiatives.
Despite his claims, the Nobel Prize for 2025 was awarded to María Corina Machado.
The Norwegian Nobel Committee shared on X:
”The Norwegian Nobel Committee has made the decision to grant the 2025 #NobelPeacePrize to Maria Corina Machado for her relentless efforts in advocating for democratic rights for the people of Venezuela and for her fight to secure a fair and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy.”
Machado is a Venezuelan politician and industrial engineer who has emerged as a prominent critic of President Nicolás Maduro’s regime.
Despite being prohibited from running for office and enduring numerous threats, she has persistently advocated for democratic reforms and free elections in Venezuela. The award is anticipated to bolster the opposition’s initiatives, although it will likely incite anger from Maduro’s administration. The Nobel Prize ceremony is scheduled for December 10 in Oslo, Norway.
Recent peace deal
The announcement arrives as Trump continues to highlight his own international diplomatic efforts. The president has garnered significant acclaim for his recent peace agreement between Hamas and Israel.
