Diane Keaton’s final post on social media was beautifully heartwarming just before her passing.
The legendary actress died on Saturday, October 11, in California at the age of 79. Since there were few warning signs leading up to her death, fans understandably began to wonder what might have caused it.
However, a source later told People that “She declined very suddenly, which was devastating for all who cared about her. It was completely unexpected, particularly for someone with such resilience and vitality.”
The precise cause of death has yet to be established, but 911 audio obtained by TMZ disclosed heartbreaking information regarding the events surrounding the performer over the weekend.
According to the 911 audio acquired by TMZ, a dispatcher reported a “person down” in the early hours of Saturday morning, October 11.
“Rescue 19, person down,” the dispatcher can be heard stating before providing Keaton’s address.
Keaton gained fame in the 1970s thanks to her remarkable role in The Godfather films and her unforgettable partnerships with Woody Allen. She later won an Oscar for Best Actress for her legendary performance in Annie Hall in 1977. Throughout her career, she starred in numerous hits, including The First Wives Club, various Nancy Meyers films, and the well-loved Book Club movies.
“In her last months, she was only with her nearest family, who decided to keep everything very private. Even her long-time friends were not completely aware of what was going on,” a source revealed.
The actress had also not posted on social media for quite some time, with her last Instagram post being several months ago.
However, it was characteristically touching, as she marked National Pet Day with a photo of her dog, a Golden Retriever named Reggie, on April 11.
Keaton, a well-known dog enthusiast, welcomed Reggie into her life in 2020.
After her passing, numerous prominent individuals have paid their respects, including Goldie Hawn, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Bette Midler.
“Diane Keaton was truly one of a kind. She was brilliant, humorous, and unapologetically herself,” DiCaprio expressed.
“A legend, an icon, and a genuinely kind person. I had the privilege of working with her at 18. She will be profoundly missed.”
“Diane, we’re not ready to say goodbye to you,” Goldie Hawn shared on Instagram. “You’ve left us with a sprinkle of fairy dust, filled with light and memories that are beyond imagination… Shine your fairy dust up there, girlfriend. I’m going to miss you so much.”
Bette Midler remarked: “The brilliant, beautiful, extraordinary Diane Keaton has passed away. I can’t express how incredibly sad this makes me. She was hilarious, a true original… What you saw was exactly who she was.”
