A man who attempted to be consumed by a giant snake regretted his choice the moment it began to unfold.
If you ask most dedicated conservationists, they will tell you that there’s very little they wouldn’t do to bring about the change they wish to see in the world. With habitats declining, threats to various animal species increasing, and the undeniable reality of climate change looming, many individuals are eager to address these pressing issues.
However, few would ever think of going to the extremes that Paul Rosolie did, an explorer and wildlife lover who dedicated years to studying the Amazon Rainforest ecosystem.
Having seen the destruction and degradation up close, Rosolie came up with a plan so shocking that it would compel the world to pay attention: he intended to be eaten alive by an anaconda.
Eaten alive by snake
Before we proceed, let’s ease your biggest concern. The plan, while drastic, was designed for Rosolie to survive the swallowing. In other words, he aimed to be consumed by the snake and then extracted before digestion could occur.
This raises the obvious question: how could this even be feasible?
Well, Rosolie had a specially designed suit made, one that could theoretically endure the immense pressure of the snake’s grip, as well as the act of being eaten. The suit was fitted with a built-in oxygen supply and cameras, allowing Rosolie to document his terrifying encounter with death.
This wild (in every sense of the word) experiment was filmed for a documentary on the Discovery Channel, where Rosolie provoked an anaconda attack by approaching one in the rainforest.
Snake attack
The snake involved complied as expected, biting his arm and then wrapping its coils around his body. Rosolie recounted each second of the incident to the team that was waiting close by.
“I’m feeling the coils all over me,” Rosolie can be heard stating. “She’s got my arms trapped. She understands that I’m powerless to act.”
As the anaconda tightened its grip, Rosolie felt his heart racing and his breathing grew heavy. Fortunately, his modern suit protected him from injury, but there was no denying the clear distress he experienced.
“I’m calling it!” he eventually shouted. “I need help.”
His team was then able to carry out an extraction before Rosolie was completely swallowed.
Although the stunt was undoubtedly frightening for Rosolie, it successfully ignited a discussion about conservation concerning the Amazon Rainforest.
In a conversation with Today, Rosalie mentioned: “It actually began when I saw the rainforest being burned, and I became really frustrated that others didn’t seem as passionate about it as I was.
“I wanted to create something that would capture people’s attention.
“People have attempted everything else. I work down there year after year, and you witness this habitat being destroyed.”
